Kevin Cole’s “Increase Risk with Emotional Faith,” a mixed media wall sculpture, will be featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. “Since 1992, my work has evolved to include the relationship between color and music, especially music as it relates to the African-American community,” said Cole in an interview with ArtDaily. The aim of “Interwoven/Contemporary Textiles” at the Marta Hewett Gallery is to explore “traditional and alternative textile materials.” Despite the diversity of what’s on view, the exhibition can be divided into artists who use traditional techniques and materials, and others who use alternative materials but still work with basically traditional techniques.
