Margot Gotoff, an artist of extensive experience creating classical, figurative works in bronze and glass explores new directions in her recent exhibit. At 67 years old, Gotoff's 30+ years as a dedicated artist include studies at the L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva and the Art Students League in NYC. Her recent use of opaque black and white glass add a drama and powerful presence to several of her newest pieces. In addition, transparent drapes of vivid color, emerald green and cobalt blue, provide a contrast in movement and texture to the satin smooth surface of the figures' flesh.
All of Gotoff's works are initially, fully modeled by hand in clay, at her summer studio in Vermont. Life casts are not used. Once an image is successfully completed in clay, the long process of mold making, casting, annealing and, finally, hand polishing begins. If all goes well, the month's of intense and physically demanding work, result in the realization of a stunning piece of sculpture. |
